Similac Recall

By NewsMan | Sep 23, 2010

Abbott has issued a recall on certain Similac baby formula products due to the fact that beetles have been found in some of the packages. The insect is not poisonous, nor will it cause any long-term damage to babies, but if it is ingested, the insect parts may cause irritation of the upper gastrointestinal system. Stomach irritation may result in a lack of desire to eat amongst infants. If symptoms persist for more than a few days, Abbott has recommended that a doctor be consulted.

This recall includes only powdered formula, no liquid formulas were affected. You can find out if your formula is contaminated by visiting similac recall, or by calling their hotline. Be sure to have your products identification number handy. If it is determined that your formula may have been affected, a full refund will be issued by Abbott.
