Cho Oyu: Where is it?

By trendman | Nov 4, 2009

Cho Oyu is a mountain located in Nepal. In Tibetan, it is often described as the ”Turquoise goddess” because of its creamy white-purplish appearance in the late afternoons. Some mountaineers claim that it is simply an extension of the Himalayas ranges and is considered to be the 6th tallest mountain the world. Cho Oyu is best accessed via Nepal. Mountaineers first attempted to scale Cho Oyu in 1952 but like most Himalayans peaks, most have encountered a lot of technical difficulties and steep ice cliffs. However, over the decades many mountaineers have considered the Cho Oyu the easiest to climb and recommend this peak before going on to climb the K2 or Mount Everest.

The Cho Oyu stands at 26,900 feet and is located just 10-12 miles west of Everest.

On 18th, September 2009, New York U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney’s husband died while climbing on the Cho Oyu. He was 71 years old and loved to climb mountains. He died while resting at a high altitude camp and the cause of death remains unknown.
